What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault is labelled an internal fault in the control module, it relates to the wires between the roof control module and the position sensors in the front and rear roof sections. If one of these wires is shorted to ground, or one of the sensors is not working, the code is set. It may appear when the roof is activated or deactivated, and the roof may operate to a limited extent.
Possible causes
- The wire to position sensor 17 (front roof section) is shorted to ground
- The wire to position sensor 2 (rear roof section) is shorted to ground
- Position sensor 17 (front roof section) is not working
- Position sensor 2 (rear roof section) is not working
- Internal fault in the roof control module (CRM)
What you can do
- 1Read out and clear the fault code and test the roof to see whether it comes back
- 2Use a multimeter to confirm the wires to position sensors 17 and 2 have no short to ground
- 3Check the connectors at the two position sensors for oxidation and loose connections
- 4Replace a damaged wire. If no fault is found after these checks, a workshop should replace the convertible roof module (CRM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- No or limited roof operation
