What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) compares the signal from the oil temperature sensor with a calculated value and with predefined limits. The code is stored when the signal does not look reasonable, that is when the sensor gives a value that does not match reality. The four-wheel drive is then blocked or disengaged, and the fault may lie in the sensor, its connector or the control module.
Possible causes
- Faulty or damaged oil temperature sensor
- Faulty or damaged four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil temperature at idle and compare it with the outside temperature, then check that the value updates during a road test
- 4Check that the connector to the temperature sensor is secure and free from oxidation
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check or replace the temperature sensor and the four-wheel drive control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The four-wheel drive does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The four-wheel drive is blocked
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
