What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) compares its own supply voltage with the voltage in the central electronic control module (CEM). The code is stored when the two differ too much, which can be caused by a signal wire shorted to voltage or to ground, or by a break in the supply. The four-wheel drive is blocked or disengaged for as long as the fault is active.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Break in the supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the four-wheel drive control module voltage at idle and compare it with the battery voltage; any difference points to the supply
- 4Check the wire to the connected unit for damage, and the connectors for oxidation and contact resistance
- 5If the fault is not active now but has been, it is probably intermittent; check the connectors carefully and watch whether it comes back
- 6If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the supply voltage and replace the control module if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The four-wheel drive does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The four-wheel drive is blocked
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
