What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) compares the oil pressure sensor's reading against a calculated pressure. The pressure is calculated when the engine speed is above a certain value, and an electric feed pump builds up a base pressure in the clutch. The code is stored when the signal differs from the calculated pressure, which can be caused by the sensor, the pump, too little oil in the clutch, internal leakage or the control module. The four-wheel drive is then blocked or disengaged.
Possible causes
- Faulty or damaged pressure sensor
- Damaged feed pump
- Too little oil in the clutch
- Internal leakage in the clutch
- Faulty or damaged four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Damaged clutch unit (AOC)
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil pressure with the engine running; it should rise as engine speed goes up
- 4Check the connector and the wire between the control module and the feed pump for damage, loose contacts and oxidation, and check that the wire is not pinched
- 5With the ignition on, listen whether the feed pump starts and runs normally. A mechanical noise from the clutch is a warning sign
- 6If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pressure, the pump and the clutch, and replace parts as needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The four-wheel drive does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The four-wheel drive is blocked
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
