What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is titled pump motor, it concerns the oil pressure pump for the four-wheel drive. The control module (DEM) compares the current through the pump with predefined limits, and the code is stored when the current stays outside them for a longer period. The cause may be a damaged connector or wire, an internal leak in the pump, or a damaged pump. The four-wheel drive is disengaged.
Possible causes
- Damaged connector between the oil pressure pump and the four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Supply wire shorted to voltage
- Internal leakage in the oil pressure pump
- Damaged oil pressure pump
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector between the oil pressure pump and the control module for damage, loose contact and other faults that could affect operation
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the wire has contact with battery voltage when it is disconnected at both ends
- 4If no fault is visible in the connector or the wire, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check and probably replace the oil pressure pump
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
