DEM-0015
VOLVO
DEM-0015 - Control module Incorrect software
System
Differential Electronic Module (DEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) compares its configuration identity with the signal configuration that the central electronic control module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. Because cars are configured differently depending on model and equipment, the code is stored when the two do not agree, which means the wrong software is programmed in the DEM. The fault can also be caused by interruptions or short circuits in the CAN network.
Possible causes
- Wrong software programmed in the four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Intermittent breaks or short circuits on the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the codes in all control modules, since several communication faults often go together
- 2If a control module has been replaced without new software being loaded, tell the workshop; this may be the cause
- 3Check the connectors and wiring in the CAN network for chafing, pinching and loose contacts
- 4Have a workshop load the latest software into the four-wheel drive control module; replace the module only as a last step
- 5Erase the code after the update and check that it is not set again after a road test
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
