What does this fault code mean?
The module checks its configuration ID against the signal configuration that the CEM transmits. The code is also stored when communication with the CEM is broken. If the module is not intended for this particular car it may be the cause, and then the correct software must be loaded. Because the module does not respond during a permanent break, the code can only be read out when the fault is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, for example from a used module intended for another vehicle
- Break in the CAN wires between the module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in all control modules and note whether codes for lost communication are stored in the CEM; troubleshoot from those first
- 2If a control module has been replaced, tell the workshop that it may need the correct software for this particular car
- 3Check that the CAN wires between the modules are secure, not chafed, and that the connectors are clean
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no contact with ground or battery voltage when they are unplugged
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop load new software into the control module and erase the code afterwards
Symptoms you may notice4
- The four-wheel drive does not work
- Message in the display, depending on model
- The traction control warning lamp lights
- The general warning lamp lights
