What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) has a memory, EEPROM, in which fault codes, their counters and frozen values are stored. The code is stored when the module finds an internal fault in that memory or a fault in its software. The four-wheel drive is then disengaged while the fault remains. The remedy is to load new software first and then replace the module if the fault persists.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Faulty software in the module
- Damaged memory element in the module
- Damaged four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery is well charged
- 3If the code returns, have a workshop load new software into the four-wheel drive control module
- 4If the fault remains after that, have the workshop replace the control module and calibrate it
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
