Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
This code is also event-driven, meaning it is an informative code that does not indicate a fault in the control module. The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) has two temperature sensors on its circuit board, and when the temperature in the module is too high or too low the four-wheel drive is disengaged. The code remains for a while after the fault has cleared, and there is no separate troubleshooting for it.
Possible causes
- Temperature in the control module too high
- Temperature in the control module too low
What you can do
- 1Let the car warm up or cool down for a while and see whether the four-wheel drive works again
- 2Erase the code and road test to see whether it is set again during normal driving
- 3If the four-wheel drive keeps disengaging during normal driving, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the four-wheel drive control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present and for a short time after it has cleared
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
