Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is titled signal rate of change, it concerns both temperature sensors in the four-wheel drive control module (DEM) showing signs of damage, such as a short circuit or an open circuit, over a longer period. The fault lies in the sensors or in the control module. The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present and for a while after it has cleared.
Possible causes
- Damaged temperature sensor in the control module
- Damaged four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If the code returns, have a workshop download new software into the control module and check the sensors
- 4If the fault remains after that, have the workshop replace the control module and calibrate it, since a new module needs calibrating
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present and for a while after it has cleared
