Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (6)
What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) tracks how quickly the signal from the oil temperature sensor changes. Although the code is titled inside or outside the limits, it concerns the speed of change: when the signal changes faster than the module calculates it should, this is treated as a fault. The fault lies in the sensor or the control module, and the four-wheel drive is disengaged while it is present.
Possible causes
- Damaged temperature sensor
- Damaged control module
- Damaged oil pressure and oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector between the control module and the temperature sensor for oxidation and loose contacts
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil temperature in live data and check that it changes smoothly as the engine warms up, without jumps
- 4If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment replace the sensor or the control module if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The four-wheel drive does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
