What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is titled range inside or outside the limits for the control circuit, it concerns the comparison between the oil pressure change that the four-wheel drive control module (DEM) expects in the clutch and the actual signal from the sensor. If the deviation becomes too large while driving, it is treated as a fault. The cause may be a damaged clutch, an oil leak, a sensor, the control valve or the control module itself.
Possible causes
- Damaged four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Damaged clutch unit (AOC)
- Oil leakage
- Damaged oil pressure and oil temperature sensor
- Damaged control valve or axial solenoid
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test under normal driving to see whether it returns
- 2Check the oil level in the clutch (AOC unit) and look for oil leaks under the car
- 3Check the connector between the control module and the feed pump for oxidation, loose contacts and damage
- 4If the oil level is right and no damage is visible, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensors, the control valve and the control module, and replace whatever is faulty
- 5Do not work on the brakes or ABS yourself. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake system and wheel speed sensors
Symptoms you may notice2
- The four-wheel drive does not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
