DEM-P168914
VOLVO
DEM-P168914 - Solenoid circuit oil pressure regulation. General electrical fault. Short circuit to ground or open circuit
System
Differential Electronic Module (DEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) checks whether the signal to the control valve is reasonable by comparing the current with predefined limits. The code is stored when the current falls outside them with the engine running. This can be caused by a signal wire shorted to ground or by a broken supply, and the four-wheel drive is then disengaged.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Break in the voltage supply
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connectors and wires to the control valve for damage, chafing and loose contacts
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body) when disconnected, and that it is intact
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check and replace the control valve or the control module if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The four-wheel drive does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged
