DEM-P188911 - Oil Pressure Pump Performance. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Differential Electronic Module (DEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) checks how the oil pressure pump performs by comparing the current through it with predefined limits while driving. The code is stored when the supply wire is shorted to ground, or when the connector between the pump and the control module is damaged. The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Damaged connector between the oil pressure pump and the four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Supply wire shorted to ground
- Internal leakage in the oil pressure pump
- Damaged oil pressure pump
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector between the oil pressure pump and the control module for damage, loose contact and oxidation
- 3Check that the supply wire to the pump is not chafed and does not touch the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire has no contact with ground (the body) when it is disconnected
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pump, replace it if needed and calibrate the control module afterwards
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present
