DEM-P188913 - Oil Pressure Pump Performance. General Electrical Failures. Circuit open
System
Differential Electronic Module (DEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) checks how the oil pressure pump performs by comparing its current with predefined limits. The code is stored when the supply wire has a break, which shows up as an open circuit. The cause may be a damaged connector, a break or short to ground in the wire, internal leakage in the pump, or a damaged pump. The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Damaged connector between the oil pressure pump and the four-wheel drive control module (DEM)
- Break or short to ground in the wire
- Internal leakage in the oil pressure pump
- Damaged oil pressure pump
What you can do
- 1Read and erase the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector between the pump and the control module for damage, loose contact and oxidation
- 3Check the wire to the pump for breaks, damage and chafing, and that it does not touch the body
- 4If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pump, replace it if needed and calibrate the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do not work
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The four-wheel drive is disengaged while the fault is present
