What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) monitors the signal from the oil pressure pump, which supplies pressure to the four-wheel drive clutch. When the signal falls outside the permitted range, the module treats it as an electrical fault. The usual cause is a cable shorted to ground or an interruption in the supply to the pump.
Possible causes
- The signal wire from the pump is shorted to ground
- Interruption in the voltage supply to the pump
- The voltage supply cable is shorted to ground
- Loose, corroded or damaged connector between the pump and the control module
- Damaged oil pressure pump
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, note it and clear it. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors at the pump and the control module: they should be firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 4Follow the wiring between the control module and the pump for chafing and pinched areas, and use a multimeter to confirm it has no contact with ground (body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the pump motor and listen for it to start and run smoothly. If it starts and then stops, the fault may have been intermittent
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the pump and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive does not work
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Four-wheel drive is disengaged
