What does this fault code mean?
The oil pressure pump for the four-wheel drive draws too little current, which the four-wheel drive control module (DEM) detects when it compares the pump signal with its limits. The current through the pump depends on the oil temperature, but the code is only set when the low value returns over several drives in a row. The fault can therefore be permanent or intermittent.
Possible causes
- Damaged connector between the oil pressure pump and the control module
- Oil level too low in the coupling
- The power supply cable is shorted to ground
- Damaged oil pressure pump
- Damaged safety or overflow valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, note it and clear it. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connector between the pump and the control module for oxidation and loose fit, and follow the wiring for chafing
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pump signal in live data with the engine running and check whether the value stays steady or jumps
- 5Have a workshop check the oil level in the coupling and look for leaks
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the pump and the safety valve
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive does not work
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Four-wheel drive is disengaged for as long as the fault is present
