What does this fault code mean?
The four-wheel drive control module (DEM) checks that the configuration in the connector to the four-wheel drive unit (AOC) is correct. A module from another car make with a similar four-wheel drive system can be fitted to a Volvo by mistake, and then the DEM does not recognize the configuration. The code is set when the DEM finds that the part does not suit the vehicle.
Possible causes
- A control module from another car make fitted by mistake
- Wrong hardware version of the four-wheel drive control module (DEM) for the software
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, note it and clear it. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the hardware version of the control module and note it for the workshop
- 4If the control module has recently been replaced, tell the workshop, since a wrongly fitted module can cause this fault
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check that the correct control module is fitted for the vehicle and replace it if necessary
Symptoms you may notice2
- Four-wheel drive does not work
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
