DIM-0004
VOLVO
DIM-0004 - Fuel level sensor. Signal missing. Intermittent fault
System
Driver Information Module (DIM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC70 Cabriolet (1998–2005), C70 Coupé (1998–2002), S70 (1997–2000), V70 (1997–2000), V70 XC (1998–2000)
What does this fault code mean?
The instrument receives no signal from the fuel level sensor, so the fuel level is not shown correctly. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred before but does not always show. The causes may be poor contact, an open circuit in the signal or ground lead, a signal wire shorted to voltage, or a faulty sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or ground lead
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Faulty fuel level sensor
- On vehicles with AWD the fault may lie in either of the two sensors in the pump units
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, note it and clear it. Test drive the vehicle to see if it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors at the fuel level sensor for oxidation and loose fit. On vehicles with AWD this applies to both pump units
- 4Follow the signal and ground leads for chafing and damage. Use a multimeter to confirm the signal wire is not shorted to voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the fuel level sensor, as this requires measurement
Symptoms you may notice1
- Fuel level reading is incorrect
