What does this fault code mean?
The instrument panel module (DIM) switches the relay that powers the ignition lock control unit (SCU). The central electronic module (CEM) asks the DIM over the CAN network to supply the SCU. If communication with the CEM is lost, the code is set. The steering lock then cannot lock or unlock, and the engine does not start.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable shorted to ground
- Communication cable shorted to voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns. Clear the fault code only after the wiring has been checked
- 3Check the connectors in the communication cable for oxidation and loose fit, and follow the cable for chafing and pinched areas
- 4Use a multimeter to confirm the communication cable has no contact with ground or voltage
- 5The steering lock is a safety function: do not work on it yourself. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the steering lock and the control unit
Symptoms you may notice2
- The steering lock does not lock or unlock
- The engine does not start
