What does this fault code mean?
The instrument panel module (DIM) switches the relay that powers the ignition lock control unit (SCU). The code is set when the signal wire to that control is shorted to voltage. The steering lock then cannot lock or unlock, and the engine does not start.
Possible causes
- Signal wire to the relay shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Follow the signal wire for chafing and pinched areas, where a short to voltage can occur
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire has voltage with the ignition off. It should not
- 4The steering lock is a safety function: do not work on it yourself. Have a workshop check the steering lock before clearing the fault code
Symptoms you may notice2
- The steering lock does not lock or unlock
- The engine does not start
