What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) has detected that the voltage on the CAN-L signal wire, part of the car's data network, has been too high for a period. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has been present before but is not active right now. High voltage on this wire is often caused by the wire briefly shorting to supply voltage.
Possible causes
- The CAN-L wire is shorted to supply voltage, often intermittently
- Fault in the instrument cluster
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in other control modules, since several may be affected by the data network
- 2Check the signal wire between the instrument cluster and the other modules for chafing, pinching and places where it could short to supply voltage
- 3Use diagnostic equipment to check that CAN-L is not shorted to supply and check the connectors at the cluster
- 4Replace the instrument cluster only after the wiring has been investigated and the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- Several systems in the car may work poorly or not at all
