What does this fault code mean?
The instrument communicates on the medium-speed CAN network (MS-CAN), one of the vehicle's CAN networks. The code is set when communication is disturbed by another control module on the network, or by the instrument's own messages. The instrument may then switch off or stop working.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Damaged instrument panel module (DIM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes, note them and clear them. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Follow the CAN wiring between the instrument and the other control modules for chafing and pinched areas
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read which control modules respond on the network and note whether any are missing
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the MS-CAN network and locate the control module that disturbs communication

- The instrument shuts down and remains inactive until its power is cut and reconnected
