What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named a programming fault, it concerns disturbances on the medium-speed CAN network (MS-CAN). The fault can occur when another control module on the network disturbs communication, and then the instrument lighting and dimmer do not work.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Disturbance from another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Damaged instrument panel module (DIM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes, note them and clear them. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery is in good condition
- 3Follow the CAN wiring for chafing and pinched areas, and check the connectors for oxidation and loose fit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read which control modules respond on the network and note whether any are missing
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the configuration and carry out a CAN fault-finding procedure

- The control module shuts down and remains inactive until its power is cut and reconnected
- At the next power-on the control module tries to communicate again
