What does this fault code mean?
The instrument has switched off its communication on the medium-speed CAN network (MS-CAN), one of the vehicle's CAN networks. It happens when another control module disturbs the network, or when the instrument's own messages cause disturbance. The instrument lighting and dimmer then do not work.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Damaged instrument panel module (DIM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes, note them and clear them. Test drive the vehicle to see if the fault returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the instrument are intact
- 3Check the connectors at the instrument and along the CAN wiring for oxidation and chafing
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read which control modules respond on the network and note whether any are missing
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop measure the network and locate the control module that disturbs communication
