What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) gets no reply from the transmission control module (TCM) and has lost contact with it, either because the module has stopped working or because the communication is broken. The fault is general and does not point to a specific fault type.
Possible causes
- The transmission control module (TCM) is not working
- Break in the communication wire between the modules
- The communication wire is shorted to earth
- The communication wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Poor contact, oxidation or breaks in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault codes in the instrument cluster and in the transmission control module, clear them and road test the car
- 2Check the fuses for the instrument cluster and the transmission control module in the fuse box
- 3Check the wiring to the transmission control module for chafing and pinch damage, and that the connectors are fully engaged
- 4If any work has recently been done on the gearbox or the electrical system, check that all connectors are properly reconnected
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN network and the transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The gear indicator in the instrument cluster does not appear
