Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) has lost contact with the forward sensing module (FSM), which is used among other things by the cruise control and collision warning. The fault is general and does not point to a single component.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the forward sensing module
- Break in the earth wire to the module
- Poor contact in the connections between the modules
- The module does not suit the car, for example a used module with different software
- Common fault on the CAN network if other modules also have stored communication faults
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, activate the collision warning function. The lamp in the button should light and a symbol should appear in the instrument cluster
- 2If neither the lamp nor the symbol appears, check the fuse for the system and that the earth connection to the module is tight
- 3If the function works now but the fault is stored, it has probably been an intermittent fault that is not active at the moment
- 4Measure with a multimeter that the supply to the module is present with the ignition on, and that the earth wire has no break
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the module and the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not hold the set speed or switches off
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- The tyre pressure warning comes on or behaves abnormally
