What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) cannot communicate with the forward distance sensor that belongs to the cruise control. The cruise control may therefore work with limited function. The fault is general and points to communication over the CAN network, not to a single part.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the forward distance sensor
- Break in the earth wire to the sensor
- Poor contact in the connections
- The sensor does not suit the car, for example a used unit with different software or hardware
- Common fault on the CAN network, if several modules also have stored communication faults
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, switch on the collision warning. The lamp in the button and a symbol in the instrument cluster should light
- 2If neither the lamp nor the symbol lights, check the fuse for the system and that the earth connection to the sensor is tight
- 3If the system works now but the fault is stored, it has probably been an intermittent fault that is not active at the moment
- 4Measure with a multimeter that the sensor has supply with the ignition on and that the earth wire is intact
- 5Do not replace the sensor or the module until a workshop with diagnostic equipment has shown the fault is there
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not hold the set speed or switches off
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- The tyre pressure warning comes on or behaves abnormally
