What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) has lost contact with the pedestrian protection module (PPM). The fault concerns the communication between the modules and not a single component.
Possible causes
- The pedestrian protection module (PPM) is not working
- Break in the communication wire
- The communication wire is shorted to earth
- The communication wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Poor contact, oxidation or breaks in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault codes with a diagnostic tool, clear them and road test the car to see whether the code returns
- 2Check the fuses for the instrument cluster and for the pedestrian protection system in the fuse box
- 3Check that the connectors to the instrument cluster and to the pedestrian protection module are fully engaged and dry and clean
- 4Measure with a multimeter that the communication wire between the modules has no break and is not shorted to earth
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop investigate the pedestrian protection module and the central electronic module (CEM)
Symptoms you may notice1
- A text and a warning symbol appear in the instrument cluster
