What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster (DIM) receives signals from the brake control module (BCM) with a lower quality than it can accept. The fault often shows up as a faulty trip meter, an ABS warning or a text message, and it usually lies in the brake control module rather than in the instrument cluster.
Possible causes
- The fault probably lies in the brake control module (BCM), which sends signals of too low quality
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault codes in the brake control module and the instrument cluster, clear them and road test the car to see whether the fault returns
- 2Check the fuses for the brake system and the instrument cluster in the fuse box, and that the connectors are fully engaged
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the wheel speeds in live data and check that all four wheels show similar values while the car rolls gently
- 4Do not work on the brake system yourself. ABS may be out of action, so drive carefully and have a workshop repair the fault promptly
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake control module and the communication
Symptoms you may notice4
- The trip meter shows a fault or does not work
- The ABS lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The trip computer does not work
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the instrument cluster
