Possible causes
- The fault probably lies in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) module
- The fault may lie in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or the fuse list
- 3Note whether the airbag warning comes on straight away when the ignition is switched on, or only after a while
- 4Do not work on the airbag system yourself. It can be dangerous without the right training and tools, so have a workshop carry out the troubleshooting and repair
- 5If the fault remains after clearing, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment investigate the airbag system and its communication with the instrument cluster
Symptoms you may notice2
- A text message appears in the instrument cluster
- The airbag warning lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
