Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The instrument cluster compares its own system voltage with the voltage that the central electronic module sends over the CAN network. If the values differ for a longer period, the code is set. It only needs troubleshooting if it stays active for a long time and a function in the car does not work; otherwise it can simply be cleared. The fault usually lies in a damaged supply wire to the instrument cluster.
Possible causes
- The supply wire is shorted to earth
- Break in the supply wire
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or the fuse list
- 2Measure with a multimeter that the supply wire to the instrument cluster has no break and is not shorted to earth
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the system voltage in live data with the battery voltage with the engine off and check that the values agree
- 4Read the fault code, clear it and road test the car. If it returns and a function is still missing, have a workshop investigate the power supply
- 5If no function is affected, the code can be cleared without further troubleshooting
Symptoms you may notice3
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the instrument cluster
- The trip computer does not work
- A gauge shows a fault or does not work
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
