ECM-0009
VOLVO
ECM-0009 - Charging pressure sensor. Power supply too high. Intermittent fault.
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsS70 (1997–2000), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (1997–2000), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
The boost pressure sensor receives too high a supply voltage. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active, the engine control module limits boost pressure to the basic level, so the engine feels sluggish and exhaust gas recirculation does not work as it should.
Possible causes
- The supply wire is shorted to battery voltage
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Faulty boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the boost pressure sensor for chafing, pinch damage and corrosion
- 2Measure with a multimeter that the supply wire to the sensor is not shorted to battery voltage with the ignition on
- 3Because the fault is intermittent, note when the engine feels sluggish, and whether this happens under certain loads
- 4If the engine feels sluggish, avoid heavy loads until the fault has been repaired
- 5Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the boost pressure sensor and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor acceleration and a sluggish engine
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) does not work
What the fault can affect2
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is switched off
- Boost pressure is limited to the basic level
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
