What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module receives signals from the cruise control switch that do not match. If two buttons that should not be used together send a signal at the same time, the module treats it as a fault. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now, but while the code is active the cruise control cannot be used.
Possible causes
- The signal wires are shorted to each other
- Faulty cruise control switch
What you can do
- 1Press the switch buttons one at a time and see whether any of them sticks or gives the wrong function
- 2Check that the switch is not damaged and that the buttons return when released
- 3Check the wires and connectors to the switch for chafing and pinch damage
- 4Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the switch and the wiring to the engine control module
- 5Work on connectors and wiring in the steering wheel is left to a workshop, since the airbag is located there
