Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS70 (1997–2000), V70 (1997–2000), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has received too low a signal from the glow plug relay. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. It can make the engine hard to start, and the battery may appear to be poorly charged.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to earth
- Break in the signal or supply wire
- Contact resistance in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the glow plug relay for contact resistance, play and chafing
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or the fuse list
- 3Measure with a multimeter that the signal wire is not shorted to earth and that the supply and signal wires have no break
- 4Note whether the engine is only hard to start when cold, so that a workshop can reproduce the fault
- 5Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop replace or investigate the glow plug relay
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine is hard to start
- The battery appears to be poorly charged
