ECM-001D
VOLVO
ECM-001D - Turbo control valve. Signal too low. Intermittent fault.
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS70 (1997–2000), V70 (1997–2000), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has recorded a fault in the circuit to the turbo control valve, for example a short circuit or a break. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active, boost pressure is limited to the basic level and the engine may feel sluggish.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Faulty turbo control valve
- The signal wire is shorted to earth
- Break in the signal or supply wire
- Contact resistance in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the turbo control valve for play, chafing and corrosion
- 2Check the connectors on the turbo control valve and the engine control module for poor contact
- 3Check the circuit between the valve connector and its fuse in the relay and fuse box in the engine bay for intermittent breaks
- 4Because the fault is intermittent, note when the engine feels sluggish and whether this happens under certain loads
- 5Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment investigate the turbo control valve
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor acceleration and a sluggish engine
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) does not work
What the fault can affect2
- Only basic boost pressure is allowed
- No exhaust gas recirculation takes place
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
