This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has recorded a fault in the signal from the EGR converter, for example a short circuit or a break in the circuit. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active, boost pressure is limited to the basic level and exhaust gas recirculation is switched off, which can cause exhaust-related problems.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Faulty EGR converter
- The signal wire is shorted to earth
- Break in the signal or supply wire
- Contact resistance in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the EGR converter for play, chafing and corrosion
- 2Check the connectors on the EGR converter and the engine control module for poor contact
- 3Check the circuit between the EGR converter connector and its fuse for intermittent breaks
- 4Because the fault is intermittent, note when the exhaust behaves differently or the engine feels weak, so a workshop can reproduce the fault
- 5Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment investigate the EGR converter
Symptoms you may notice3
- Poor acceleration and a sluggish engine
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) does not work
- Exhaust-related problems
What the fault can affect2
- Only basic boost pressure is allowed
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is switched off
