What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has received a faulty signal from the brake position sensor. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the fault is active the cruise control is switched off.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Break in the signal or earth wire
- Faulty brake position sensor
- The brake position sensor is fitted incorrectly
What you can do
- 1Check that the brake position sensor is correctly fitted and look for visible damage, and check its connections
- 2Check the wires and connectors for chafing, play and corrosion
- 3Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the brake position sensor
- 4Do not work on the brake pedal or its sensor yourself. Brakes are safety-critical, so have a workshop do the job
- 5Do not use the cruise control until the fault has been repaired
