What does this fault code mean?
The fuel quantity regulator receives too little fuel when the engine is cold. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active the engine may stall or fail to start, and it is a matter for the workshop to determine where the fault lies.
Possible causes
- The regulator's signal wire is shorted to earth or battery voltage
- Break in the signal or supply wire to the fuel quantity regulator
- Faulty injection pump
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the fuel quantity regulator for play, chafing and corrosion
- 2Measure with a multimeter that the signal wire is not shorted to earth or battery voltage and that the wires have no break
- 3Note whether the engine stalls or fails to start only when it is cold, so that a workshop can reproduce the fault
- 4Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the fuel quantity regulator and the injection pump
- 5Work on the injection pump is a workshop task, since the fuel system is under high pressure
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start
