Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS70 (1997–2000), V70 (1997–2000), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has received a faulty signal from the ignition-switched supply, meaning the supply that is connected when the ignition is switched on. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active, not all functions can be checked, and the cruise control does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal wire to the main relay is shorted to earth
- Faulty main relay
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the main relay for play, chafing and corrosion
- 2Measure with a multimeter that the signal wire to the main relay is not shorted to earth
- 3Check that the fuses for the ignition-switched supply are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or the fuse list
- 4Clear the fault code and road test the car. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the main relay and the ignition-switched supply
- 5Note which functions stop working at the same time, so that the workshop can find the common cause more quickly
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor acceleration and a sluggish engine
- The cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect3
- Only basic boost pressure is allowed
- Valves, relays and lamps supplied from the ignition-switched supply (terminal 15) are not checked by the diagnosis
- The cruise control cannot be engaged
