Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS70 (1997–2000), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (1997–2000)
What does this fault code mean?
The fuel quantity does not match when the car is stationary. At ignition-on the positions of the fuel quantity regulator are checked, and if the position sensor's signal differs too much from what is expected, the code is set. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. The engine may then stall or fail to start.
Possible causes
- The regulator's signal wire is shorted to earth or battery voltage
- Break in the signal or supply wire to the fuel quantity regulator
- Faulty injection pump
- Break in the wiring to the regulator's position sensor
- The wires to the position sensor are shorted to earth
What you can do
- 1Check the wiring between the injection pump and the fuel quantity regulator for intermittent breaks
- 2Check the connectors to the engine control module and the injection pump for play and oxidation. Clean them and make sure they are fully seated
- 3Because the fault is intermittent, note whether the engine stalls when the car is stationary or after a while of driving
- 4Clear the fault code and road test. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the fuel quantity regulator and the injection pump
- 5The injection pump is a workshop task, since the fuel system is under high pressure
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect1
- Only basic boost pressure is allowed
