Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS70 (1997–2000), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (1997–2000)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has received a signal from the regulator's position sensor that is too high. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and may not be present right now. While the code is active the fuel quantity regulator is switched off, and the engine may stall or fail to start.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal wire or in one of the supply wires to the position sensor
- The signal wire or one of the supply wires to the position sensor is shorted to earth
- Faulty injection pump
What you can do
- 1Check the wires and connectors to the position sensor for play, chafing and corrosion
- 2Check the connectors on the injection pump and the engine control module for play and oxidation
- 3Measure with a multimeter that the wires to the position sensor have no break and are not shorted to earth
- 4Clear the fault code and try to start the engine. If it returns, have a workshop investigate the position sensor and the injection pump
- 5The injection pump is a workshop task, since the fuel system is under high pressure
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect2
- The fuel quantity regulator is switched off
- An internal control circuit in the engine control module stops communicating
