What does this fault code mean?
This code is stored when the transmission control module (TCM) holds one or more fault codes, or when the engine control module stops receiving CAN signals from the gearbox module. The fault is intermittent and may have occurred without being present now. The symptoms depend on which fault code the gearbox module holds, so that module should be checked first.
Possible causes
- Fault code in the transmission control module (TCM)
- Communication fault on the CAN bus
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the connectors on the gearbox and engine control modules are secure and not corroded
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break and no short to ground or supply voltage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the gearbox control module and deal with them before erasing anything
- 4If you do not have a diagnostic tool, have a workshop read the gearbox module; erase this code only after the root fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice3
- Symptoms vary depending on the fault code in the gearbox control module
- A message appears in the display
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
