What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered a signal that is too low from the turbocharger control valve circuit. This is usually due to contact problems, or a break or short to ground in the wiring to the valve. The valve controls boost pressure, so the fault is often noticed in how the car drives.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals
- Open circuit or short to ground in the signal cable
- Open circuit or short to ground in the power supply to the control valve
- Damaged turbocharger control valve
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the turbo control valve connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the valve has no short to ground (the body), with the connector unplugged
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the power supply to the valve has no break and no short to ground
- 4Have a workshop check the valve and replace it if needed, once the wiring is confirmed sound
Symptoms you may notice2
- Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Car has poor performance or lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque is limited
