Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) measures the electrical resistance in the heater circuit of the front oxygen sensor on bank 1. If the resistance falls outside the permitted range, it is treated as a fault. The cause is most often poor contact in the connections, but the oxygen sensor itself may also be damaged.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Damaged front oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, unplug the front oxygen sensor connector and clean the contacts of resistance and oxidation
- 2Make sure the contacts click firmly together when reconnected
- 3If the fault remains after erasing codes and a test drive, have a workshop check and replace the front oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
