Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the electrical resistance in the heater circuit of the rear oxygen sensor on bank 1. If the resistance is outside the permitted limits, the control module treats it as a fault. Poor contact is the usual reason, although a damaged oxygen sensor can also cause it.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, unplug the rear oxygen sensor connector and check the contacts for resistance and oxidation, fixing them as needed
- 2If the fault remains after erasing codes and a test drive, have a workshop check and replace the rear oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
