What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the boost reading with atmospheric pressure, which the control module measures itself. If the difference between them becomes too large, the code is stored. The cause can be poor contact or damaged wiring to the sensor, but the boost sensor or the built-in pressure sensor may also be faulty.
Possible causes
- Looseness, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break or short circuit in the wiring to the boost pressure sensor
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
- Damaged atmospheric pressure sensor inside the engine control module
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, inspect the boost sensor plug for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the boost pressure sensor has no break and no short to ground or supply voltage, moving the harness as you measure
- 3Check that the ground wire to the boost pressure sensor has no break
- 4Erase the fault code and test drive the car; if it returns, have a workshop replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead of the measured value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
