What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module keeps watch on the intake air temperature sensor and has registered a reading that is too low. The cause is most often poor contact, or a break or short to ground in the wire, but the sensor itself may also be damaged.
Possible causes
- Looseness, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the connector to the intake air temperature sensor for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the sensor's signal wire has no contact with ground (the body) and does not break when the wiring is moved
- 3If the fault returns after erasing codes and a test drive although the connectors and wiring are sound, have a workshop replace the intake air temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
