What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the boost pressure reading with atmospheric pressure. If the two do not agree while the engine is idling, the code is stored. The cause is most often an air leak on the intake side, poor contact or damaged wiring to the sensor, but the sensors themselves can also be damaged.
Possible causes
- Air leak on the engine's intake side
- Looseness, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break or short circuit in the wiring to the boost pressure sensor
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
- Damaged atmospheric pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, look for air leaks on the intake side, for example at hoses and connections
- 2Check the connector to the boost pressure sensor for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the boost pressure sensor does not break and has no short to ground or supply voltage
- 4If the fault returns although leaks and connectors are sound, have a workshop replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead of the measured value
