What does this fault code mean?
Although the code concerns the mass air flow sensor, the temperature sensor inside it is what reports the signal that is too high. The engine control module stores the code when the signal does not match the sensor's normal behaviour, most often because the signal wire has come into contact with supply voltage.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the connector to the mass air flow sensor for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2With the ignition on and the connector unplugged, use a multimeter on the signal wire; voltage there indicates a short to supply voltage
- 3Have a workshop replace the mass air flow sensor if the fault returns while the wiring is sound
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
